Holiday of Love at Bessemer Elementary School

A colorful cavalcade of Christmas toys and educational items excited energized students and families at Bessemer Elementary School’s annual Holiday of Love. For the fourth consecutive year, school social worker Tanya Dixon produced the happy event to brighten the season for selected needy children.

“We expanded Holiday of Love this year, filling the school’s cafeteria-multipurpose room with more than 200 students and families,” Dixon said, explaining that she identified the neediest children and invited them.

Local JAMZ 102 radio personality CDK on the Mic served as host, engaging the students in various interactive activities to establish a joyous context before inviting each grade level to select a toy, game or book arranged on cafeteria tables. Dixon said CDK served as the principal donor of toys, including five bicycles that he raffled, explaining other community gift donors included Bridging Gaps, Thirty Minute Mentoring and Thrive.
