Harris makes surprise visit to N.C.A&TSU

Former Vice President Kamala Harris met with students at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. During a surprise visit on Monday, April 13, she listened to students’ dreams, wishes and aspirations, especially with attention to voting.

According to A&T student Shia Rozier, Harris first met with a small group of 10 student leaders in a closed-door session to discuss the removal of the campus polling site (for the March 3 Primary Election). Rozier added that the vice president listened to the struggles A&T students faced in keeping the campus voting site and they discussed possible courses of action. A&T students also discussed with Harris some of the challenges they face in these turbulent socioeconomic times such as gas prices, scholarship changes and life in a food desert.

Harris was in Greensboro on tour to promote her book, 107 Days, at the Tanger Performing Arts Center. Rozier said the “surprise” visit to A&T by Kamala Harris was frenetically planned in secret. She said Harris encouraged the A&T students to remain engaged, to vote and continue to press forward despite the denial of their early voting polling site.

Later in the day at the Tanger Center, the former U.S. Vice President mentioned her visit to the A&T campus, prompting the audience to respond with a rousing, “Aggie Pride.”
