The Greensboro Symphony Orchestra (GSO) announces a spectacular tribute to the legendary Aretha Franklin, set to take place on January 18th, at 7:30 p.m.  in the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts. This highly anticipated event, “Aretha: A Tribute,” is the third concert in the 2024-2025 POPS Series and promises to be an unforgettable evening of soul-stirring music and powerful performances.

Headlining this tribute are two extraordinary vocal talents: Capathia Jenkins and Ryan Shaw. Jenkins, renowned for her Broadway performances including roles in “Newsies,” “The Civil War,” and “Caroline, or Change,” has captivated audiences around the globe with her powerful performances and dynamic vocal range, and brings a depth of emotion and power that will channel the spirit of Aretha Franklin. Ryan Shaw, a three-time Grammy-nominated artist, is celebrated for his soulful voice and captivating stage presence. Together, they will deliver a performance that honors Aretha’s legacy with authenticity and passion. They will be accompanied by the irreplaceable background vocals of the GSO Community Gospel Choir – featuring many singers from churches across Greensboro.

The concert will, of course, feature the entire Greensboro Symphony Orchestra live on stage, conducted by its new Music Director Christopher Dragon.
