Retired Greensboro Police Department Captain, Pamelia McAdoo-Rogers has been named the new Director of Public Safety and Security at Greensboro College.

McAdoo-Rogers assumed the role on June 1, 2024.

Founded in 1838, located in downtown Greensboro, the liberal arts college enrolls about 1,000 students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and seven foreign countries in its undergraduate liberal arts program and six master’s degree programs. McAdoo-Rogers is the first woman and thus the first African American woman to lead the campus safety department.

“This school is right down the street from where I retired. So, I’ve spent time on the campus before. It’s a rich history here. This is a beautiful campus. It’s a small campus community and when the opportunity presented itself, I certainly took a look at it,” she said.

McAdoo-Rogers holds both a bachelor’s in Elementary Education and master’s degree in Adult Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She served the Greensboro Police Department and the city for more than 30 years in public safety, crime prevention, community engagement, collaborative partnerships, leadership and management of community safety and trust-building initiatives. A Greensboro native, she retired as a captain from the Greensboro Police Department after 36 years of service.

Throughout her career, she has served in several divisions within the Greensboro Police Department (GPD): Patrol Operations, Resource Management, Operational Support, and Information Services. With her work with the GCPD, she implemented successful community policing initiatives and crime-reduction strategies.

McAdoo-Rogers has served on local boards and commissions throughout her career. She currently serves as Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women-Greensboro and Chair of the Board of Directors for the Family Room Foster Care Resource Center. She is the recipient of several awards, including the Ruth Wicker Tribute to Women, Dr. Vivian Burke Community Leadership Award, and the North State Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award.

She has earned additional executive leadership training through the Governmental Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE), Senior Management Institute for Police, Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University, Police Leadership Development and Leadership Greensboro. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

She is currently going on a ‘listening tour’ where she’s meeting with faculty, staff, and student leaders to get feedback on what is working and what changes they would like to see in campus safety.

“One thing I’ve really been impressed with so far are the student leaders. They are engaged and they would like to see more engagement from the security officers. I am looking forward to seeing how we can engage with them through campus initiatives or anything else they are interested in related to crime prevention,” said Rogers.

She also said she hopes to help enhance the college’s current safety initiatives that address crime prevention, alcohol awareness, and emergency safety procedures, as well as expanding partnerships with local law enforcement.

“Not only being a leader, but being from this community, that affords me insight and some wonderful opportunities for us to collaborate with the community of Greensboro,” Rogers said adding,

“This role allows me the opportunity to continue mentoring, coaching, developing, and even inspiring more women into their careers.”

McAdoo-Rogers replaces the recently retired Chief Calvin Gilmore, who served Greensboro College for 42 years.

“Pamelia McAdoo-Rogers’ communication skills, experience in public safety, law enforcement, and community engagement are important assets that she brings to campus. Safety and security on college campuses have risen to the top of our priorities and we are confident that Chief Rogers is an ideal choice to join our management team,” said Greensboro College President, Dr. Lawrence D. Czarda.
