Focusing on accomplishments and the district’s residents, new Greensboro City Councilmember Crystal Black celebrated her first three months in office by conducting a television-style interactive District 1 Town Hall.
Moving around the Yvonne Johnson Event Center in Barber Park, the educator-public official assembled leaders of several city departments, introducing them and requesting an update of activity to about 100 people.
“This meeting is not about me, it’s about we,” she said, introducing herself, saying, “Call me Crystal, I know I am a Councilmember. We have work to do together.”
Black entitled her Town Hall “100+ Days in Office — Check out what’s been accomplished!” Among the city departments present included Greensboro Police, Human Rights, Planning, Code Enforcement, Parks & Recreation, Communications and Water Resources.
Elected last November, unseating long time Councilmember Sharon Hightower, Black distributed a card detailing accomplishments and objectives including Plans to remediate the closed, contaminated Bigham Park, Code Enforcement requiring landlords to clean up abandoned commercial property, and addressing water quality in East Greensboro.
The District 1 councilmember said she and District 2 councilmember Cecile Crawford are planning a combined East Greensboro Town Hall in July.
