A&T Aggies make children’s ‘Winter Wishes’ come true

Posted

The faculty and staff of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University granted the wishes of hundreds of children in Guilford County foster care.

For the ninth year at A&T’s Winter Wishes gift drive, scores of gift bearers from across the university’s campus delivered a plethora of items destined to be given to approximately 200 children in foster care. The Aggie elves collected the gifts at the university’s Alumni-Foundation Center.

Chancellor James R. Martin II joined Melvin “Skip” Alston, chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners, and Sheila Stokes, program director with Guilford County Children’s Services, in expressing gratitude for the outpouring of generosity by the Aggie faculty, staff and students during the holiday season. The partnership between the university and Guilford County allows faculty and staff to fulfill the holiday wishes of more than a third of all children in foster care served by Guilford County Social Services.

Each child created a list with as many as three gifts – ranging from toys, games, and electronics to sporting goods, bicycles, musical instruments, art supplies, clothing, shoes, books and gift cards, which A&T employees pledged to provide. The gifts collected were organized at the celebration for distribution to the children by A&T’s social services staff before Christmas.
