The Whirlies of Grimsley High School faced the Nighthawks of Northern Guilford at home in a battle royale between two undefeated titans of high school football for the Metro 4A Conference Championship. The Grimsley Whirlies unleashed an F5 tornado on the Nighthawks, which left the Hawks with a 42-14 defeat and their wings clipped. This is the sixth time the Grimsley Whirlies have won the Metro 4A Conference football championship. They maintain their undefeated record at 10-0 and have on average beaten their opponents by more than 21 points this season.
Grimsley quarterback Mitchell Summers rushed for a season-high 221 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries to help the Whirlies extend their conference winning streak to 37 games.
Northern Guilford quarterback Jaxson Kemp threw for 220 yards and two touchdowns, and he rushed for 33 yards. Christopher Morrison Jr tallied 93 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Grimsley’s win keeps them at the top of the Metro 4A standings in first place. Northern Guilford’s defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins for the Nighthawks, bringing their record to an impressive 9-1.
